Royal Berkshire Hospital

What?

A hub at Royal Berkshire Hospital using a temporary structure erected in a local school field opposite the main hospital site. Grocery boxes were available to order online for collection on site, which included a range of additional donated items from our supporters including: James Martin @ Wellocks, Gems at Work, Brewdog and Harrods.

Staff are able to visit before, during or after work to pick up pre-ordered meat/vegetarian/vegan or gluten free grocery boxes to feed a family of four for several days at cost price. The RBFT hub was run by volunteers sourced through the local community volunteer network during the COVID-19 crisis, who have been praised for going above and beyond to support the wellbeing of NHS staff.

How?

Enabled by the support of Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, as well as volunteers from local community networks and internal support from the RBFT charity. The infrastructure, tech-enabled ordering app and volunteer team were set up and mobilised in just over a week, so that NHS staff were able to order and collect their boxes between 8am and 8pm 7 days per week.
